- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Gendarmerie was organised by the Romanian administration installed after the First World War. The units from Hunedoara county were included first in the Third Regiment of Gendarmes based in Deva, which later was moved to Arad. Regiment No. 9 had territorial units in Deva, Anina, Arad, Lugoj and Timişoara. It was subordinated to Brigade No. 4 which wasbased in Cluj. Law No. 912/1929 issued by the Romanian government organised the so-called Rural Gendarmerie with seven inspectorates. That of Timişoara also included the Gendarmerie units from Hunedoara county. The Gendarmerie section of Ilia had posts in Boz, Burjuc, Gurasada, Ilia, Vasca and Zam. During the Second World War it played a significant role in the implementation of the antisemitic policy of the Antonescu dictatorship. After 1945 the Gendarmerie was reorganised, including sections in Ilia and Dobra, and functioned until 1949 when the Communist regime replaced it with the so-called Popular Militia.
