Records with specific Jewish references can be found in particular in the following files: No. 18/1863 (anonymous antisemitic pamphlets); No. 75/1878 (financial support for synagogues and Jewish educational institutions); Nos. 94, 186 and 199 (official dispositions concerning the trade in alcoholic beverages), No. 199/1911 (emigration and immigration).
- Archival history:
- The fonds was transferred to the Bihor county directorate of the Romanian National Archives, inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The territorial administration of Bihor county was reestablished in 1860 on the same model as that from the period preceding the 1848 Revolution after a decade of the neo-absolutist Austrian regime which had a completely different system of organisation. At the head of the local administration was the prefect nominated by the Court in Vienna, who was responsible for the entire activity of the local institutions. After 1867, when the Austro-Hungarian Empire replaced the former Austrian Empire, the system of local administration was reorganised by the laws issued by the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest which introduced the exclusive use of the Hungarian language in administration and the subordination of the county including its chief officer to the government in Budapest. This system continued until the end of the First World War, when the new Romanian system of administration was introduced and Romanian became the language of administration.
