Among both he shareholders and the staff of the bank were Jewish individuals whose status was worsened by the antisemitic regulations which came into force during the Second World War under the Antonescu regime. After 1945 their rights were reestablished until the bank stopped its activity in 1946.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was transferred to the Arad county directorate of the Romanian National Archives, inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Bank Arădana S.A. was founded in 1919 with the main objective to offer financial support to productive economical activities, especially in agriculture and industry, in the Arad area. Its headquarters were in Arad and it established branches elsewhere in the county. The members of its council of administration were mostly Romanian, but Jewish, Hungarian and German individuals are also mentioned among the leaders of the bank in the inter-war period. Its activity was seriously disturbed by the large economic crisis from 1929 to 1933 but it recovered and continued its activity. During the Second World War it was compelled to implement the so-called “Romanisation” policy imposed by the antisemitic Antonescu dictatorship, which led to the Jewish shareholders and staff members being dismissed. After 1945 the bank continued to function for a short period of time but it ceased to exist in 1946.
