- Scope and content:
- The fonds comprises the files issued by the town hall of Ineu from 1800 to 1967. It includes records of meetings of the town council, budget sheets, census records of the population, vital records registers, documents concerning the agriculture of the area, the policy of electrification of the neighbouring villages, building of lodgings, the educational institutions and their role in the eradication of illiteracy. In Ineu and its surroundings there was a significant Jewish population, whose number increased from 48 persons in 1869 to 144 persons in 1930 in the town of Ineu. Through the records it is possible to trace the process of its integration in the civil rights system especially after 1867, the effects of the changes of state policy concerning minorities in the inter-war period, the antisemitic legislation implemented during the Second World War such as the expropriation of Jewish properties, forced labour, restriction of the autonomy of Jewish communities (see for example Files No. 3/1940 and 4/1941) and lastly the effects of the newly installed Communist regime after 1948.

- The fonds was preserved by the town hall of Ineu. It was then transferred to the Arad county directorate of the Romanian National Archives, inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The town of Ineu is mentioned from medieval times, beginning in 1334, and was under Turkish administration in the 17th century. From the 18th century it was included in Arad county and was administered until the end of the First World War in accordance with the legislation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After 1920 it became part of Greater Romania, becoming in 1925 the capital town of the prefecture of Ineu in Arad county. This affiliation continued until the administrative reform introduced in 1950 by the newly installed Communist regime when Ineu became the capital of the so-called "rayon" Ineu in the framework of the region Arad (as in the Soviet administrative model). In 1956 the Arad region was included in a larger unit, Crişana region with its capital at Oradea. The administrative reform adopted by the Ceauşescu regime in 1968 reorganised Arad county and Ineu again became part of it. The Jewish population, which had been increasing until the Second World War, disappeared due to the Holocaust and subsequent Aliyah. Today a community exists only in the city of Arad.
