This fonds comprises the registers, catalogues and files of the Superior Real State School of Arad from 1875 to 1920. It contains statistics concerning the students and teaching staff, records of exams, budget sheets and records of material donations to the school. The annual registers include for each student their name, birth date and birth place, their ethnic origin and religious affiliation, the name, residence and profession of their parents and their results in school subjects, including the final result of every grade. The catalogues record the presence of every student and their marks for every day of the academic year.
The number of Jewish students reflects the existence in Arad of a strong Jewish community, which in 1891 numbered 4,795 member out of a total population of 42,057.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was originally held by the school inspectorate of Arad. It was transferred to the Arad County division of the Romanian National Archives, where it was inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Superior Real State School of Arad was founded in 1874, following a previous private real school that had functioned since 1863. It was recognised as a Superior State school in 1881, having 8 grades. It was focused on technic-scientific instruction of the students. The teaching language was Hungarian. Access was freely granted to Jewish students. After the First World War it was merged with the Moise Nicoară high school of Arad and Romanian was introduced as a teaching language.
