- Scope and content:
- This fonds comprises of the Satu Mare district committee of the Romanian Communist Party (until 1965: Romanian Workers' Party), including records of meetings of the committee, reports of activity of its organisations, of the collective farms and state farms in the district, of the popular militia, of the stations for mechanisation of agriculture and of the party organisations from the villages of the district. It also includes lists of members, their financial contributions and annual activity reports of the district committee. Both the lists of members and those of individuals elected to various party boards that led daily activities include Jews, but their presence diminishes considerable after 1960 with the new wave of Aliyah and the start after 1965 of the National-Communist ideology promoted by party leader Nicolae Ceauşescu.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was originally held by the prefecture of Satu Mare county. It was transferred to the Satu Mare County division of the Romanian National Archives in 1996, where it was inventoried and made available to researchers.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- At the end of 1950 the plenary session of the secretaries of the local organisations of the Romanian Workers' Party from the former district of Satu Mare and the secretary of the regional committee presented the new administrative structure in accordance with which the party structures were to be reorganised. The new Satu Mare district committee had the task of organising, directing and supervising the activity of the organisations from the towns and villages of the district and of those from industrial, agricultural and other institutional organisations from each locality. In the district-level plenary sessions and party conferences the instructions of the superior party authorities were transmitted and the results of their implementations were analysed. This organisational structure continued until the party was reorganised in accordance with the new administrative system introduced by the regime of Nicolae Ceauşescu, which also changed the name of the party to Romanian Communist Party since 1965.
