- Administrative/biographical history:
- The decision to found a bank of the town of Baia Mare was taken by the town council on 13 September 1858 and implemented in practice in 1862 when the court of Satu Mare validated the statutes of the bank. Its purpose was to stimulate the local economy by allowing the local population to invest in profitable business projects. It became a member of the Banking Union of Hungary and a branch of the Austro-Hungarian Bank until the end of the First World War. It was administrated by a committee of 15 members elected by the town council of Baia Mare. It continued its activity under the Romanian administration in the interwar period, being in business relationships with the most important banks in Romania. In the period between 1929 and 1933 it was in great difficulty, being not far from bankruptcy. Its activity ceased in 1948 when all banks in Romania were nationalised by the Communist regime.
