The following files contain Jewish references: no. 182 - Iosif Bogdan is compelled to fulfil his obligations to the Jewish owner Francisc Izrael from Seini (1801); no. 185 - Abraham Aron requests the local authorities to compel Francisc Izrael to pay his debts (1801); no. 280 - the mayor of Oraşu Nou signs a contract with Abraham Blum for the lease of the local quarry for 3 years (1853); no. 385 - Abraham Erzsei leases the local pub for 3 years for 1100 florins annually (1855); no. 357 - Samuel Blahmka receives 130 florins for repairing the local organ (1857); no. 359 - list of inhabitants of the village of Oraşu Nou (1857).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The village of Oraşu Nou, 37km northeast of Satu Mare, the seat of Satu Mare county, was mentioned for the first time in 1270. It was in possession of the noble families Bathori, Lonyai and Wesselenyi and in the 17th century became the seat of Oaş district. In 1663 it obtained the right to have its own market. In 1717 it suffered heavy losses during the last important invasion of the Tatars. The fairs organised here every year were of considerable importance for the neighbouring villages. Jewish inhabitants began to appear here in the 19th century. In 1880 their number was 234 out of a total population of 1822.
