The registers comprise vital records, court records, petitions, orphan cases and annual drafting.

- Archival history:
- The fonds was transferred in 1949 to the Cluj regional division of the State Archives and was later transferred to the Maramureş County division of the Romanian National Archives, where it was inventoried in 1974.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The town of Baia Sprie became a mining centre in the second half of the 17th century. It was developed and modernised in the 18th century as part of the Austrian reform policy which was designed to make full use of the economic resources of Hungary and Transylvania, which came under imperial rule in 1690. Due to this mercantilist policy, there were over 300 mines in operation in 1800, which belonged to 46 mining societies. In 1896 the total extent of the mining drifts surpassed 10km. In 1928 the mines of Baia Sprie and the surrounding area produced 2300kg of silver, 1200kg of lead, 70kg of copper and 6kg of gold. Until 1848 it was forbidden for Jews to settle in mining towns, including Baia Sprie, but after 1850 the size of the Jewish population and number of Jewish properties increased considerably and they were represented in political life as evidenced by the electoral lists. In 1948 the newly installed Communist regime nationalised the entire mining industry, including the enterprises in Baia Sprie.
