- Administrative/biographical history:
- The locality of Cîmpulung la Tisa is first mentioned in 1329 as having urban status, with a town council. It had a school since in 1664 but this was destroyed by a fire which affected more than half the houses in 1778. A new school building was inaugurated in 1910. In the inter-war period it is mentioned as a village, having, in 1920, 341 Jewish inhabitants out of a total population of 2676. According to the census of 1930, there were 317 Jewish persons in a total population of 2831 inhabitants and in 1941 93 Jews still lived here out of 3073 inhabitants. In 1940 the Hungarian administration introduced antisemitic legislation and in April-May 1944 the Jewish inhabitants were first concentrated in the ghetto of Sighet before being deported to Auschwitz. In 1956 there were only 16 Jews in the village.
