- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains records of the Calvinist parish of Doba from 1727–1972, documenting the size and structure of its membership, the lives of its ministers, its relationships with the church administration and other local religious groups, its property and finances and its school. Material of Jewish relevance refers to the Holocaust period, when local Jews were ghettoised and later deported to Auschwitz, and their property was seized by the authorities and distributed mainly to Hungarian Calvinists (file 43). No Jews from Doba survived the Holocaust, and their property was transferred to the state between 1948 and 1963.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was transferred to the Romanian National Archives, Directorate of Sălaj County, where it was inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Doba is mentioned in documents dating back to 1363. In the Reformation of the 16th century, most of Transylvania’s Hungarian-speaking population became Calvinist and Doba’s Gothic Roman Catholic church was converted. The church was demolished in 1876 and replaced by a new Calvinist church. In 1847 the village had 466 inhabitants, 434 of them Calvinist Hungarians. In 1890, of 329 inhabitants in 77 houses, 257 were Calvinist and eight Jewish.
