- Administrative/biographical history:
- Associations of lawyers were organised in every county in accordance with a law of 1864 prescribing a minimum number of ten members. The law was modified in 1907 and again in 1923, when the new Romanian regime instituted the Union of Romanian Lawyers as the administrative body for all the county associations. The Sălaj County association was based in the court building in Zalău and operated under rules established 1923 and modified in 1931, 1932 and 1942. It had a dean, a council and a general assembly, and in 1942 established the categories of lawyers admitted, which excluded Jewish members. The communist regime replaced associations of lawyers with colleges of lawyers for each county in 1949.
