- Scope and content:
- The fonds contains documents concerning the administration of the wood near Cehu Silvaniei called Codru Mare, which belonged to the landlord of the area until 1854 and was then used in common by local village communities. The records give information about the rights and obligations of those who owned and used the estate and the procedures for guarding it in cooperation with the county Wood Inspectorate. Material of Jewish relevance includes lease contracts between owners and Jewish leaseholders who took over the administration of the estate and paid taxes to the landlord until 1854 and then to the village communities.
- Archival history:
- The fonds was in the care of Cehu Silvaniei council, then transferred in 1973 to the Romanian National Archives, Directorate of Sălaj County, where it was inventoried.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Until 1854, the woods belonged to the local landlords as part of their estate exploited directly in their benefit and not shared in parcels attributed to the peasants. The landlords used the services of leaseholders to administer the woods and the leaseholders were in many cases Jewish. They paid rent to the owner and received income by way of taxes paid by peasants who cut down trees for firewood or construction. From 1854 until the First World War the local village communities received this income.
