- The collection holds interviews conducted in domestic languages and is part of the archives of Institute for Languages of Finland (Kotimaisten kielten tutkimuskeskus). These interviews include also some in Yiddish, Moses Guthwert’s interview from 1969 and twenty interviews from 2000–2004.

- The Institute for the Languages of Finland was founded in 1976.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- In addition to interviews made in Finnish and its various dialects, the Tape Archive of the Finnish Language collects interviews in other languages spoken in Finland. In 1969 the renowned Estonian linguist Paul Ariste visited Helsinki and interviewed Moses Guthwert (1884–1971). This is the oldest known interview in Yiddish in Finland. Since then, Simo Muir conducted interviews in Yiddish between 2000 and 2004 for his PhD, twenty of which are archived in the collection of the Tape Archive of the Finnish Language.
