- Scope and content:
- The collection holds the records of the Hebrew School Akiva and kindergarten Gan (1942–2001), and it is part of the Turku Jewish archives (section VI: files VI A–B). It contains class registers, lists of pupils and the equipment of the school, contracts, certificates given, kindergarten fees (1968–1969), lottery lists and a school curriculum. It also contains the meeting minutes, correspondence, accounting records, miscellaneous documents, and prints of the Scandinavian Jewish Youth Association (SJUF) congress and camp (1967–1968).
- Archival history:
- The material was deposited in the National Archives by the Jewish congregation of Turku in 2008. It was organized in the National Archives of Turku in January-February 2008.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The community had a Jewish school in the 1930s but due to lack of students it was shut down. Instead, the congregation ran a Hebrew school (since 1961, Akiva) for Jewish children until 2001 and a gan until the 1960s. The Scandinavian Jewish Youth Association (SJUF) was established in 1919. Its main activities include organizing camps and conferences for Scandinavian Jewish youth. The youth association Kadimah and Makkabé joined SJUF in 1945 and 1960 respectively, and the Turku community organized the SJUF camp in 1968.
