The latter forms the core of the collection. Besides the schools, there are some records from the Gan Jeladim Kindergarten, the Jewish Library and the Jewish Hospital. The collection is part of the Finnish Jewish Archives (Suomen juutalaisten arkisto; 630:114). The records cover major segments of the administration of the institutions, including list of pupils, minutes, correspondence, annual reports, and financial records.
The records from the Jewish School of Helsinki (files 273–277), covering 1892–1900, contain lists of pupils, minutes, a guest book, general journals, ledgers and cash books and fundraising documents.
The records from the Mosaic School of Helsinki (file 443), covering 1905–1907, contain minutes, lists of pupils and funding applications.
The records of the Jewish Coeducational School of Helsinki (files 278–309) contain class registers (1919–1960), pupils’ health-related records (1919–1927), minutes, correspondence (1920–1981), annual reports (1920-1989), general journals (1925–1985), balance books (1958–1992), other accounting and payroll records (1932–1950).
The records from the Gan Jeladim Kindergarten (files 310–312), covering 1953–1992, contain minutes, annual reports, correspondence, records concerning the new building, general journals, balance and cash books.
The records from the Jewish Community Library (file 313), covering 1955–1982, contains a general catalogue, letters received, circulars, annual reports and book catalogues.
The records from the Jewish Hospital of Helsinki (files 314–317), covering 1960–1984, contains minutes, rules and regulations, contracts and general journals.
- Archival history:
- The records were kept in the Jewish Coeducational School of Helsinki and the Jewish Community of Helsinki until the mid-1990s, when they were deposited in the National Archives of Finland. There the collection was sorted and catalogued and opened to the public in 1998. Further additions to the collection were made in 2005–2006.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Jewish School of Helsinki (Judiska Skolan i Helsingfors), founded in 1893, was fashioned after Russian state run Jewish schools. The Mosaic School of Helsinki (Mosaiska skolan i Helsingfors), founded in 1906, was a so-called reformed heder. The activity of both schools remained temporary. The Swedish and Hebrew language Jewish Coeducational School of Helsinki (Judiska Samskolan i Helsingfors, Helsingin juutalainen yhteiskoulu) was established in 1918. It was fashioned after the model of East European Yavne schools, which combined Zionism with Orthodoxy, and the curriculum of local Finnish secondary schools. From 1933 onward, the language of instruction was gradually changed from Swedish to Finnish. The school has functioned uninterrupted (except for some short breaks during WWII) until today. The Gan Jeladim Kindergarten was established in 1950, the Jewish Community Library in 1906 and the Jewish Hospital of Helsinki in 1962. The kindergarten and the library still exist, whereas the hospital, which was a care home for the elderly, has ceased to function.
