Please note that collections held by the National Archives of Ilfov are highly fragmented due to the fact that they were evacuated from inter-war Romanian territory coming under Soviet control at the end of World War II. The material was held by disparate branches of the national archives around the country until the post-communist period.
This collection contains only four items: the first folder is a register of minutes of town hall meetings from 1922-1928. The second folder contains citizenship certificates and declarations made by residents in order to take possession of forests. These documents date 1940-1943 and it is possible the material relates to the expropriation of Jewish property. The next folder contains material related to impoverished community members receiving corn, sugar, and petrol (1944). A final folder has been added to the inventory, in handwriting, dated 1929-1930 and consisting of a register of meeting minutes of the permanent communal delegation. Please note that time did not permit the surveying archivists to examine the contents of individual folders and thus no specific details can be given as to Jewish-related material, but in light of the significant Jewish population in the region and the relatively unknown nature of these holdings, almost all material originating in Bukovina is included in the present catalogue.
Please note that, at the time of the survey, inventory numbers were not in use at the Ilfov archives. The inventories of collections from northern Bukovina were arranged by (interwar) county in folders. Numbers were pasted onto the cover, but archival staff did not treat these as inventory numbers, nor were they used to locate the inventories. These numbers are, however, provided here, in case protocol changes in the future.
- Archival history:
- This material was most likely evacuated from Cernăuți during or shortly after World War II. There is no indication as to where the material was stored and processed (in 1980) prior to being transferred to the the Ilfov branch of the National Archives. This transfer took place in the post-communist period in the course of measures to centralise documents from territories that are no longer part of Romania.
