Scope and content:: This collection consists of administrative ordinances enacted by the Sibiu magistrate during the 18th and 19th centuries. The surveying archivists looked at indexes from 1848 and 1876 and found evidence of records pertaining to Jews, both individually and as a group, at these times. (Note that the registers span the entire period from 1726-1876, so in order to obtain a comprehensive overview one would need to examine the entire collection.) Using the registers, one can access the original documents including decisions and case files. To access individual documents, one must search through alphabetical indexes or chronological registers to find relevant cases. After finding cases of interest, one can request the original documents by specifying the year and original document or case number recorded in the register. Not all documents or cases indexed in the indexes and registers are extant. Note that the extent recorded reflects the number of indexes and registers, not the size of the overall collection – no information on the number or extent of individual documents or cases is provided in the inventory.
