3) Copies of materials from court cases pertaining to collective and individual litigation, including documents on a dispute between a Jew of Jaworów named Chaim and the Dominican Order (1788); a collective letter from members of the kahal of the town of Jezierzany (Ozeriany) (Borszczów county) to the Voivodeship Administration (German: Landesgubernium) to the effect that their tax burden was unbearable (1800); a petition filed by a Jew named Abraham Kleinbergen requesting that an appraisal be made of a home, and that materials be provided for its restoration (1862); minutes of disputes between Jews and third parties involving Chaim Kahne, Leib Scherl, Moses Rozenkranz, Samuel Krankhammer, and others (1857, 1864).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Antoni Schneider (1825-80) was a Polish historian, ethnographer, collector, member of the Archaeographic Commission of the Krakow Academy of Sciences, and publisher of an encyclopedia on Galicia titled Encyklopedia do krajoznawstwa Galicji. He attended a gymnasium in Lwów, but due to family financial problems was forced to interrupt his studies. For several years thereafter he worked as a clerk for the 8th hussar regiment of the Austrian Army, as a peddler, and an accountant. During the revolutionary events of 1848, he supported the Hungarian rebels, and for this reason was imprisoned for three years in the Kufstein Fortress. In 1858 he began to engage in scholarly and archaeographic activities. From 1862-64 he worked for the daily newspaper Dziennik literacki (Literary Diary), in which he published studies on regional history, in particular a series of materials on the history of cities of Galicia. In 1868 he began work on an encyclopedia of Galician local history, but never completed this edition. He assembled collections of documents, which he later donated to the Polish Academy of Learning (Akademia Umiejętności) in Krakow and to the Ossolineum in Lwów.
