The Dzieduszyckis are an old gentry family of Ruthenian origin. Among its representatives were prominent statesmen, military men, officials, art patrons, and collectors. The fond contains documents of Włodzimierz Dzieduszycki (1825-99), a politician and public figure, deputy of the Galician Regional Diet, large landowner, prominent philanthropist, trustee and member of various societies, and collector of ethnographic and natural history materials that later formed the basis of Lwów/Lviv’s Museum of Natural History; the fond also contains documents of his wife Alfonsyna (nee Miączyńska; 1836-1919), their children, and grandchildren.
Also housed in the fond are materials of the Miączyński family, mainly related to the activities of Count Ignacy Miączyński (1767-1840), a royal chamberlain, captain, and state councilor, as well as his son Mateusz. These documents became part of the fond insofar as, until 1939, they were housed together with the documents of the Dzieduszycki family in their palace in Lwów, since Alfonsyna Dzieduszycka was the only heiress of Mateusz Miączyński.
The fond’s documents were split up in 1939, with some of them forming a collection in the Manuscripts Department of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv (see the description of f. 45).
