- Administrative/biographical history:
-
Zionim Baalei Mikzoa, an organization of Zionist craftsmen, was founded in Lwów in 1933; it was directly subordinate to the Regional Zionist Organization. The founders of Zionim Baalei Mikzoa were Yitzhak Friedman and S. Bilbel, with the latter serving as chair until 1937, when H. Hamzer took this post. The mission of Zionim Baalei Mikzoa was to promote cultural education and Zionism among Jewish craftsmen. Toward this end, it organized lectures, literary evenings, exhibitions, theater circles, excursions, and Hebrew courses. Through authorized representatives, the organization worked closely with the Keren Kayemet le-Yisrael Jewish National Fund. Membership in Zionim Baalei Mikzoa was open to any Jewish craftsman over the age of eighteen and of sound reputation. The organization had sixty-three branches in operation in the territory of Eastern Galicia, each consisting of at least ten members. The supreme executive body of Zionim Baalei Mikzoa was its central committee, which was located in Lwów at 3 Copernicus Street.
The organization ceased activities in September 1939, after Soviet forces occupied Western Ukraine.
