Materials housed in the collection that pertain to the history of the Holocaust may be provisionally divided into the following thematic groups:
1) Copies of reports, bulletins, special directives, instructions, and correspondence between military and civilian institutions of the German occupation administration regarding the political situation in areas of Belorussia – these contain materials on the organizing of the Minsk ghetto, and on aktionen (“actions”) carried out against Jews in the Begoml’ district of the Glubokoe area (1941-43); etc.
2) A memoir (1993) by Grigorii El’per, who survived the Minsk ghetto, about life in the occupied territory of Belorussia and his internment in the ghetto in 1941-44.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Central State Archive of the October Revolution (TsGAOR) of the BSSR (since 1995 called the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus) began receiving “trophy” archival materials pertaining to the history of the Great Patriotic War in the latter half of 1944. These were sets of documents from Nazi occupation institutions and organizations, military and paramilitary formations, and Belorussian collaborationist entities that had been in operation in Belorussian territory in 1941-44. Most of these documents were deposited in the Secret Fonds Division of the Central State Archive of the October Revolution. In 1950, these archival fonds began to be supplemented with copies of Nazi-occupation-related “trophy” documents received from other Soviet and foreign archives, as well as materials of the Extraordinary State Commission of the BSSR, the NKVD, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and other institutions that investigated Nazi crimes in the territory of the Soviet Union. From the 1960s-80s, these materials were used to form collections of documents on the history of the Soviet-German War, including fonds 359 and 510, which contain representative sets of documents on the history of the Holocaust in Belorussia.
