The Manuscripts group contains a Torah fragment and scroll dating to the 18th-19th century and a rare manuscript book titled Pnei Arye, Hukot Ha-Pesakh Ve-Mo'ado (The Lion's Face. The Laws of Passover and its Celebration) presumably dating to the 18th century.
The Photo-negatives group contains 16 images (13 of which are negatives on glass), most dating to the early 20th century, depicting Lemberg/Lwów/Lviv synagogues (the Golden Rose synagogue, the Hasidic shul, the Jakob Glanzer shul, the synagogue on Znesennya, the Tempel synagogue, etc.), as well as community and educational institutions (the Jewish Students’ House, Jacob Herman’s Jewish Crafts School, Jacob Rappoport’s Jewish Hospital), views of the city’s Jewish quarter, street scenes, etc.
The Graphic Arts group contains drawings, lithographs, and engravings, mainly by Polish artists of the early and mid-19th century, that depict the Jewish quarters of Lemberg/Lwów/Lviv, Krakow, Poznan, Paris, and other cities; various “types” of Polish Jews (men, women, and children) engaged in their everyday activities; types of traditional Jewish attire; etc.
The Philately group contains several early-20th century postcards featuring Jewish subjects, including reproductions of paintings and drawings by the artists M. Gottlieb (“Shylock” and “Jews Praying”), N. Pimonenko (“A Victim of Fanaticism”), and H. Pangratz (“The Jewish Military Cemetery in Zakliczyn”); a photograph of a synagogue in Uzhhorod; etc.
The Lviv Historical Museum archive also contains a copy of a map of the Jewish ghetto from the initial period of the German occupation of the city (1941); and preparatory materials for exhibits held at the museum on the history, culture, and everyday life of Galician Jewry: “Judaica in the Collection of the Lviv Historical Museum” (1999; this, the first exhibit on Judaism in over a century of the Lviv Historical Museum’s history, was organised by the prominent Lviv art critic F. Petryakova. For more on this, see F. Petryakova, Юдаїка в колекції Львівського історичного музею [Judaica in the Collection of the Lviv Historical Museum] in В. Коссой, І. Симчин, О. Роман, eds., Наукові записки Львівського історичного музею 8 (1999): 107–127), and the exhibit “Contours of the Jewish Quarter” (2014); etc.

One of the oldest museums in Ukraine, Lviv Historical Museum was established in 1893 as the Historical Museum of the city of Lemberg/Lwów. In 1940, it was combined with the neighbouring King Jan III Sobieski National Museum, at which point the holdings of the newly created L’vov/Lviv Historical Museum were supplemented with collections from other museums in the city which had been liquidated after the Soviet annexation of Western Ukraine, including the museums of the Princes Lubomirski, the Taras Shevchenko Scientific Society, the Stauropegial Institute, etc.
The museum’s exhibits and repositories currently number over 350,000 collection items, including materials from archaeological excavations; archival documents, manuscripts, and early printed editions; household items; works of art; musical instruments; and examples of china, furniture, weaponry, coins, orders and medals, official seals, etc. Among the departments and branches of the Lviv Historical Museum are the Museum Arsenal, the Museum of the Liberation Struggle of Ukraine, the Museum of Historical Treasures, Literary Lviv, the Historical-Memorial Museum of UIA General-Lieutenant Roman Shukhevych, the Historical-Memorial Museum of Colonel Yevhen Konovalets, etc.
