Of special interest to Jewish history in this collection are documents on the reconstruction of synagogues in several cities and towns, including the “Karliner” Hasidic synagogue in Włodzimierz Wołyński (blueprints, cost estimates, etc.), and the synagogue in Horodenka (regarding which there is mention of correspondence with the Monuments Preservation Administration in Lwów (1921-23); correspondence on allocating funding and obtaining permits for the restoration of Jewish-owned homes in the village of Ołpiny (Jasło county), and on allocating funding for the repair of particular Jewish-owned buildings and homesteads in various localities (1920-22); lists of recipients of building materials and other material assistance from the Restoration Directorate and organisations subordinate to it, in particular, Jewish and non-Jewish residents of Stanisławów and Tłumacz counties, the city of Sądowa Wisznia, etc. (1920-23).
The fonds also contains correspondence, cost estimates, and other documents pertaining to contracts with Jewish owners of sawmills and lumber camps, brick factories and transportation agencies, including the rental of a narrow-gauge railway (the Chołojów-Hrycowola line in Radziechów county) owned by Moyshe Steinwurtzel and Emmanuel Ermann of Lwów (1920-24); etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Area Restoration Directorate of Lwów was established by the Lwów Voivodeship Administration by order (1 December 1920) of the Ministry of Public Works, to which it subsequently reported. It was in charge of the restoration of objects destroyed during the First World War and supervised operations of county and municipal restoration administrations. It ceased its activities in 1929.
