- Materials pertaining to Jewish history and culture include a memorandum by A. Dzhordzhadze titled “Information on the Jews living in the Dagestan region” (c. 1865), which indicates the number of Jews residing in Derbent, South Dagestan, Tabasaran, the Mekhtulin Khanate, and in the fortresses of Temir-Khan-Shurá and Chir-Iurt; there is also information on the origin of the Jews of Dagestan (the Mountain Jews), their traditional occupations and trades, and their “religious hierarchy” and communal self-governance; information is given on eight synagogues and nine schools with 190 Jewish pupils, and on the language of the Mountain Jews, “Old Persian … which is called [Judeo-]Tat”; etc. (1860s).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Petr Diomidovich Elpidov was an official of the Ministry of Justice, a member of the St. Petersburg Court Chamber, and a collector of statistical materials on Russian history. P. D. Elpidov donated a collection of documents to the Imperial Public Library in 1898. Most of the materials of the collection constitute documents on the history of Siberia and the Caucasus.
