- The fonds includes a file titled “The Yiddish Theater” that contains a manuscript, card file, and notes made in pencil on a separate sheet that contain a bibliography of Russian-language publications on the Yiddish theatre for 1880-1931, listing general works on the subject as well as particular publications on Abraham Goldfaden, E.-R. Kaminskaia, and others (after 1931).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Nikolai Nikolaevich Arbatov (real name: Arkhipov; 1868-1926) was an actor, director, and teacher. He was trained as a lawyer, and was a graduate of the theatre school of A. F. Fedotov. From 1898-1903, he was head of the drama group of the Art and Literature Society; from 1903-08, director of the V. F. Komissarzhevskaia Theater; and from 1908-15, of the A. S. Suvorin Theater. After 1917 he worked in Petrograd theatres and taught. Russia’s first film school was organised on N. N. Arbatov’s initiative and with his involvement.
