- Documents housed in the fonds include orders, decree, instructions, and circulars (including some stamped “Top Secret”) of the Ukrainian SSR People’s Commissariat of Education, and copies of decrees of the All-Ukrainian Central Executive Committee (VUTsIK), the Ukrainian SSR Council of People’s Commissars, and the Odessa Area Executive Committee’s education inspectorate; these directive materials pertain to the technicum’s establishment of control over the political tendencies of its teachers and students (1928), and to compiling evaluations of its professors and teachers, both in the sense of their knowledge/research and sociopolitical aspects (1929-30); conclusions on the state of the technicum, and proposals for reorganising it (1929); correspondence of the technicum’s administration with the Ukrainian SSR People’s Commissariat of Education on readmitting students previously expelled for fractious activities (1928); on altering, from 1929, the social norms for admitting prospective students to the technicum (workers, 40%; peasants, 25%; clerical workers/employees, 20%; and handicrafts workers, 15%). There are also student files and records on students’ academic progress for 1925-35; applications of prospective students not admitted to the technicum; documents of persons who had withdrawn from the technicum due to academic underperformance; etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was opened in 1925. It was under the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian SSR People’s Commissariat of Education. It trained teachers for Jewish schools, and instruction was conducted in Yiddish. It was closed in 1935.
