- Documents housed in the fonds include correspondence with the Main Administration for Press Affairs on payment for checking works in Hebrew and Yiddish (1868-69, 1871); on allocating funding for a censor for Jewish publications, and on this official’s investiture (1871-96); on permitting the importation of Hebrew- and Yiddish-language books and periodicals into Russia, including Franz Delitzsch’s pamphlet First Fruits of the Fig-Tree (1884) and the Vienna newspapers Jüdische Zeitung and Neue Wiener Israelit (1884); correspondence with the Petersburg Censorship Committee on permitting or barring the importation into Russia of Hebrew- and Yiddish-language works published in Jerusalem, Krakow, and New York (1886-87, 1907); a list of thirty Hebrew- and Yiddish-language books analysed by the censor Iu. M. Barkhad from 15 November 1873 through 2 January 1874; the personnel file of G. O. Lifshits, the Odessa censor for Jewish publications (1912); etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in 1865 upon the reorganisation of the Odessa Censorship Committee (see the description of f. 8). It was in charge of monitoring foreign-language printed works, as well as works of visual arts imported from abroad. It was liquidated in 1917.
