- Included is a copy of an order of the Holy Synod on procedures for administering baptism to non-Christians, including Jews (1862); rules governing the baptism of Jews, and on monitoring them after their conversion (1899); a circular of the inspector of church schools of Odessa county of 28 January 1902 to the effect that, by order (16 August 1901) of the Holy Synod, “persons of the Mohammedan and Judaic confessions, even if they have successfully completed the parish school curriculum, must not be permitted to sit for final examinations for military service certification and privileges, nor should they be awarded such certificates; and that “children of the Judaic and Mohammedan confessions are not required to study religion in parish schools,” but “if they express the desire to do so […] may attend such lessons.”
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in 1806 as the St. Nikolai Church. It was under the jurisdiction of the Kherson Religious Consistory. It was transferred in 1827 to the administration of the main chaplain of the army and navy, and in 1834 came under the jurisdiction of the army archpriest of the Nikolaev Naval Hospital. In 1842 it was renamed the Ochakov Military Cathedral, and in 1846 transferred to the jurisdiction of the commandant of the Ochakov fortress. In 1864 it was transferred once again to the eparchy, and in 1900 assigned to the Ochakov fortress HQ. After the Civil War the cathedral was renamed the St. Nikolai Cathedral Church, and was in operation until 1930.
