- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in 1902 as the Nikolaev Secondary Mechanical-Technical School and Lower Vocational School to train qualified workers and mid-level specialists for Nikolaev’s shipbuilding factories. It was originally under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and that of the trustee of the Odessa Educational District; from 1917, under that of the Provisional Government’s Ministry of Education; and subsequently that of corresponding ministries of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the Ukrainian State. It was funded by shipbuilding factories and via tuition payments. Until 1917, the school was subject to the “percentage norm” (quota on Jewish admissions). In 1917 it was reorganised as the Nikolaev Polytechnic College. In 1920, in the course of a reform of the education system, it was reorganised as an industrial technicum.
