- Included is information (from a report of the headmaster of the Zolotonosha County School for 1846) on Jewish educational institutions under the jurisdiction of the Zolotonosha Jewish School Commission: on the introduction in Jewish schools of courses in the Russian language; on charging members of the commission (Rabbi I. Koval’skii and Deputy Belitskii) with the duty of visiting local cheders to oversee order and pupils’ progress, and inculcate in pupils the “rules of hospitality and communal living [pravila privetstvennosti i obshchezhitiia]”; records on commission members; and lists of cheders and data on their owners and pupils. There are also memoranda of the overseer of the Zolotonosha County School to the Zolotonosha Land Court containing a list of cheders and melameds in the county, and to the Zolotonosha Municipal Police to the effect that these were all certified to teach Jewish children (1846); correspondence of the Poltava Provincial Administration with the director of schools of the Poltava province on collecting candle tax arrears from the Jewish community of Zolotonosha (1851); annual financial reports of the Zolotonosha Jewish School Commission for 1863-64; etc.
