- Among the fonds’ materials are questionnaire data on Jewish educational institutions of Cherkassy county (with information on sources of their maintenance, the number of their pupils, their instructors’ education and teaching experience, etc.; a listing of Jewish schools of Cherkassy county, with addresses; correspondence of the Cherkassy County School Council with rural administrations on the existence of Jewish schools in these areas (1918); etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in 1904 as a county administration for zemstvo economic affairs. In 1911, it was reorganised as the county zemstvo administration. It was elected at zemstvo assemblies for a three-year term, and consisted of a chair and two or three members. It was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and, prior to 1911, immediately subordinate to the Cherkassy County Committee on Zemstvo Economic Affairs, and thereafter to the county assembly and the Kiev Provincial Zemstvo Administration. It was in charge of the local economy; construction and management of schools, hospitals, and charitable institutions; drawing up zemstvo budgets; monitoring receipt of zemstvo income; etc. It was liquidated in 1919.
