This general description relates to the fonds of the Commissariat of the State Police in Rovno, the First Commissariat of the State Police in Rovno and the Second Commissariat of the State Police in Rovno.
Included are lists of Jewish organisations, labour unions, and cultural-educational and charitable societies and associations (including some that were subjected to secret surveillance) and of their leaders; minutes of their assemblies; their applications for permits to hold lectures and evening events; materials on the political reliability of particular members of these organisations, including correspondence with the Rovno County Administration on providing evaluations of members of the Society to Aid Jewish Students in Poland (1926); investigative materials on a mass demonstration by Jews during elections for the Rovno Municipal Administration (1932); instructions of the county detachment of the state police that the Rovno branch of the Jewish Economic Committee be put under surveillance (1938); etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Established in Poland’s major cities in July 1919, these commissariats constituted special police departments with jurisdiction over the territory of corresponding cities or particular districts thereof. They reported to county detachments of the state police and carried out analogous tasks in the territory under their jurisdiction. They were liquidated in September 1939.
