- Housed in the fonds are copies of circulars of the Ministry of Education and Arts of the Ukrainian State [Ukrainska Derzhava], including on the mandatory teaching of Ukrainian studies, on accrediting teachers, and on the distribution of subjects (1918); telephonograms of the Directorate of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR) and correspondence with various entities and educational institutions; information on the high school as requested by the Volhynia Provincial Revolutionary Committee (1919); the high school’s reception book, and applications of parents and residents of the city of Zhitomir for their children’s admission to the high school (1917-19), and documents of these children (grouped alphabetically from S to Ia), including copies of vital records, family lists, and certificates of studies in other educational institutions; rules for students during vacation; class logs; lists of teachers and students; high school graduation diplomas; and financial documents (cash books, a general salary register for teachers and employees, etc.). There are also analogous materials of the Zhitomir 7th Unified Labor School of the 1st and 2nd Level (from October 1919 on).
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was opened in 1917 on the basis of the Zhitomir Jewish Men’s and Women’s 8-Grade Educational Institution with the government men’s high school [gimnaziia] curriculum of the engineer-technician S. S. Gutman. It was funded by tuition payments made by the students’ parents. It was approved 18 January 1919 by the department of secondary education of the General Secretariat of Ukraine’s Secretariat on Education as a full-fledged high school with a men’s high school curriculum for both sexes. In 1919 it was reorganised as the 7th Unified Labor School.
