- Administrative/biographical history:
- City committees were established in the mid-1920s (with the Zhitomir City Committee formed via the merger in 1925 of two previously-existing district committees of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine, those of the Senno-Pavlikovka and Zheleznodorozhnyi districts). Until 1930, they were subordinate to the corresponding Berdichev and Zhitomir Area Committees of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine; thereafter, in connection with the liquidation of areas, they were immediately subordinate to the Central Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine; from 1932, to the Vinnitsa and Kiev Regional Committees of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine (the Zhitomir City Committee answered from 1936-37 to the Zhitomir Area Committee of the Communist Party [Bolsheviks] of Ukraine); and after the formation in September 1937 of the Zhitomir region, to the Zhitomir Regional Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine. They temporarily ceased activities in connection with the occupation of the Zhitomir region in 1941-43. They were disbanded pursuant to the edict of the Presidium of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine (26 August 1991) “On the temporary cessation of the activities of the Communist Party of Ukraine.”
