- Administrative/biographical history:
- Opened 2 March 1887, this school was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and was funded by the candle tax. Pursuant to the Statute on Jewish Elementary Schools (approved 24 March 1873), it admitted children without admissions tests, including those who could not yet read or write; and some percentage of underprivileged pupils were exempt from tuition. The duration of studies depended on the age and progress of the pupils. The first grade consisted of two sections of two years each; the second, of a single section (two years). There was also a preparatory grade. Thus the general curriculum was eight years, but for the more capable students it could be shortened to five or six. The curriculum included both general-education and Jewish subjects, predominantly the former. A special vocational (metalworking and smithing) class was opened in 1903. The school was closed in 1917.
