- Administrative/biographical history:
- The office of the Volhynia provincial land surveyor was introduced in 1796 in connection with the formation of the Volhynia province. This official was appointed by the Senate Surveying Department on the recommendation of the provincial administration, and was immediately subordinate to the administration as well as to the governor; and oversaw all forms of surveying, monitored the activities of county surveyors, approved schematics, drafts, and boundary-calculations of population centers, land plots, post roads, etc. The office of the provincial land surveyor was dissolved by Soviet power in 1919.
