- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established soon after the February Revolution of 1917. The council included representatives of the Jewish public and political organisations then extant in Kiev: the Kiev Jewish community; the Jewish Committee for the Relief of War Victims (EKOPO); the Society for the Promotion of Culture among the Jews (OPE); etc. The council was to coordinate operations of the city’s Jewish public organisations, combat anti-Semitism, render aid to victims of war and pogroms, represent the interests of the Jewish population of Kiev before state agencies, and maintain contacts with Jewish public committees of other Ukrainian cities. The council was liquidated after October 1917.
