- Administrative/biographical history:
- This institution was established at the initiative of the Teachers’ Group pedagogical collective in 1916; it was meant to address the paucity of high schools [gimnazii] in Kiev, and became the city’s first educational institution to be owned this way. It had the status of a government high school. Insofar as its first school year coincided with the February Revolution of 1917, which ended all restrictions on the education of young Jewish people, Jews made up a considerable part of its student body, with some transferring here from Jewish gimnazii and schools. The school was reorganised in 1920 as a Unified Labor School.
