- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in May 1922 as the Kiev Central Historical Archive. Beginning in 1932 it was called the Kiev Regional Archival Administration’s Kiev Regional Historical Archive (and in 1930 placed under the jurisdiction of the Kiev Regional Administration of the NKVD); from 1943 on it was the Kiev Regional State Archive, from 1946 under the jurisdiction of the Kiev Regional Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and beginning in 1957, under that of the Kiev Regional Executive Committee. From 1980 on, it was called the State Archive of the Kiev Region. From 1928 through 1936, the archive had a Jewish archival section (from 1932 on, the Jewish department), which was tasked with concentrating and describing materials on Jewish history.
