- Among documents housed are minutes of sessions of the bureau of the Kiev Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine on operations of the Kiev State Yiddish Theater and the Jewish choir Evokans, and on confirming the directors thereof (1937-38); on measures toward implementing the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Central Committee’s decree (24 January 1938) on reorganising national-minority schools; on accommodations for the House of Jewish Culture; on transferring the Jewish troupe of the Palace of Pioneers’ Puppet Theater to one of the western regions of Ukraine, “where it would have a base in which to develop” (1940); on violations of legislation on religions on the part of the Jewish community and minyans (1960); etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This was established in 1917 as the Kiev Municipal Committee of the Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party (RSDRP) (from 1918-52, of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine); and from 1952-91, of the Communist Party of Ukraine). From 1919 on, it was under the jurisdiction of the Kiev Provincial Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine; from 1925, the Kiev Area Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine; and from 1932 on, the Kiev Regional Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Ukraine. In 1975 it was separated from the regional committee and made directly subordinate to the Communist Party of Ukraine Central Committee. It was liquidated in 1991 upon the banning of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
