- Most of the fond consists of office logs and files on authorising or closing various public organisations; among these materials are lists of Jewish societies (charitable organisations; savings and loan societies; labour unions; educational, religious, and cultural organisations; societies dealing with Jewish resettlement or emigration; etc.) of Kiev, and of cities and towns in the Kiev province; correspondence with security agencies regarding the political reliability of the founders of these organisations; and founding documents: registration applications; charters; reports on these organisations’ activities; information on the makeup of their boards; member lists; etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Kiev Province Office for Societies was established pursuant to the Temporary Rules on Societies and Unions of 4 March 1906. It was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and was headed by the governor. It was in charge of registering the charters of public organisations and labour unions in the territory of the Kiev province, and of issuing permits to organise them; and it monitored these organisations’ activities. It was liquidated after the February Revolution of 1917.
