There are also references and specifications on the makeup, volume, and condition of Jewish archival materials, and information on German historians’ and archivists’ acquaintance with these materials, including historians and archivists on the staff of the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg [the ERR; the Reich Leader Rosenberg Task Force on the Occupied Territories].
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Upon occupying Ukraine, the German authorities immediately took control of local archives and drew up plans for their reorganisation. Thus in Kiev, operations of the regional historical archive were gradually resumed using local archivists and scholars (with the well-known Ukrainian archivist-historian V. V. Miiakovs’kyi appointed director on 7 October 1941). On 21 October 1941, this regional archive was officially titled the V. B. Antonovych Ukrainian Main Historical Archive, and absorbed all major archival repositories of Kiev. The Kiev City and Military-Historical Archives were incorporated into the Main Historical Archive in November 1941, as was the Central Archive of Ancient Documents on 12 May 1942 (in connection with the temporary shutdown of Kiev University, which had housed the latter). On 7 December 1942, the Main Historical Archive was placed under the jurisdiction of the Territorial Administration of Archives, Libraries, and Museums (an entity of Reichskommissariat Ukraine); and on 26 February 1943, it was reorganised as the Territorial Archive.
