- Included in the collection are edicts and decrees of the Kiev Provincial Administration on the prompt consideration of cases regarding Jewish merchants and townspeople, and on litigation between Jews and Christians; and excerpts from official document registers of land courts and municipalities on the conclusion of contracts (for the rental of estates, liquor licenses, mills, etc.) between Jews and Christians. A considerable number of files contain documents pertaining to the entrepreneurial activities of one Itska Khaimovich, including promissory notes, records of commercial transactions, contracts for the sale of alcoholic beverages, complaints regarding damages, etc. There are also fragments from Kabbalistic works.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Nestor the Chronicler Historical Society was a historians’ research association operating in Kiev from 1873-1917 (from 1874, at Kiev’s St. Vladimir University); its purpose was to analyze issues of Russian history (particularly as pertained to the Southwestern territory), literary history, archeology, the law, etc. The society was chaired at various times by Professors V. S. Ikonnikov, V. B. Antonovich, M. F. Vladimirskii-Budanov, and A. M. Lazarevskii, and its members included such prominent scholars as M. S. Grushevskii [Mykhailo Hrushevsky], I. V. Luchitskii, D. I. Bagalei, I. M. Kamanin, I. A. Sikorskii, I. I. Sreznevskii, and others. The society published its works as Readings at the Nestor the Chronicler Historical Society (vols. 1-24, 1879-1914).
