- Documents included contain information on property disputes between Jews living on Rzewuski estates and these estates’ owners. Among these are requests by kahals and individual Jews for material aid in connection with emergency situations, and for tax exemptions and monetary aid; excerpts from contract books on litigation between the Rzewuskis and Jewish renters; files on the rental of villages and hamlets (in the Volhynia and Podolia provinces), as well as mills, distilleries, and inns, to Jews; records for 1861-62 on the amount of ground rent [chinsh] and orchard tax paid by the Chudnov Jewish community; etc.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- Members of the Polish gentry family of the Rzewuskis played an important role in governmental and public life of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, including playwright and political figure Wacław Rzewuski (1706-79), a grand crown hetman and castellan of Krakow; the playwright Stanisław Rzewuski (1864-?); the famous historical novelist Henryk Rzewuski (1791-1866); Adam Wawrzyniec Rzewuski (?-1825), castellan of Vitebsk and marshal of the nobility [marszałek szlachty] of the Kiev province, who authored a number of political works and whose daughter Ewelina Hańska married Honoré de Balzac; etc.
