- Representatives of the Zamojskis, a Polish gentry family, occupied various governmental and administrative posts in state institutions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the sixteenth-eighteenth centuries (and in the nineteenth, of the Russian Empire) and played an important role in the public, political, and cultural life of the country. A considerable number of Jews resided in towns and estates belonging to the counts Zamojski in Podolia and Volhynia in the sixteenth-seventeenth centuries, and the Zamojskis maintained close economic relations with them.
