- Materials housed include circulars and orders of the Main Administration for Press Affairs banning Hebrew- and Yiddish-language works of literature and articles on Jewish subjects; and lists of banned publications.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- The Office of the Khar’kov Press Inspector was established in 1880 as the Office of the Khar’kov Department Censor for Domestic Censorship, tasked with supervising the local periodical press and non-periodical publications shipped from elsewhere, mainly from nearby provinces (Khar’kov, Poltava, and Chernigov). Subsequently, pursuant to the new rules on the press of 26 April 1906, it was reorganized as the Office of the Khar’kov Press Inspector, whereupon its jurisdiction included not only domestic censorship, but also censorship of foreign publications brought into the Khar’kov province. It was dissolved by decree (27 April 1917) of the Provisional Government.
