- The court files in this fond contain information on abuses of power by kahal parnasim [wardens or board-members] (of the Jewish communities of Borodianka, Brusilov, Chigirin, Skvira, Kanev, Uman’, etc.); on their misappropriation and embezzlement of community funds and violations of the rules governing the supply of kahal members as conscripts; on Jews accused of vagrancy, lacking residence documentation, unlawful assignment to Jewish communities, sacrilege, opening unauthorized houses of worship, and unlawfully hiring Russian Orthodox peasants for household work, and on the unlawful instruction of Jewish children by melameds in the city of Uman’. There are also oaths of allegiance [prisiazhnye listy] and spiritual admonitions [dukhovnye uveshchaniia] signed by kahal members; files on Jews having committed political crimes; on the baptism of Jews; on persons of other faiths converting to Judaism; etc.
