This collection comprises documents that are linked to the personal life of Iwar Cohn. The documents relate to the time period between 1915 and 1950. They mainly concern Iwar Cohn’s professional position as a travelling salesman, including copies of orders, professional correspondence and verifications, but the collection also contains documents linked to his private life, including private correspondence and passport documents.
Some of the documents in the collection are professional certificates confirming Iwar Cohn’s employment at various companies, such as Svenska Cykel-magasinet in Linköping (in 1928), AB Minord in Stockholm (in 1925), Svenska Maskin-magasinet in Stockholm (in 1927), and AB Continental-Caoutchouc-Compagnie in Stockholm (in 1915). These documents are written on a typewriter with purple or black ink. The papers have pre-printed information on the name of the company, address, telephone number, telegraph address, and date of writing, as well as hand-written signatures from the employers. The documents describe Iwar Cohn’s character and rate his professional ability. The employment documents are written in Swedish.
The collection also includes photographs of Iwar Cohn, taken in Västerås, specifically produced for passports or personal identifications, and some of his identification documents. These identification documents are produced by the Postal Service in Sweden. They are printed in Swedish and French, and include information on, for example: name (first name and surname), profession, nationality and home address, as well as personal signatures and the date of the creation of the identification document. Iwar Cohn also had a travelling passport from Germany, printed in German, and this document includes similar information to the Swedish identification document: namely, name (first name and surname), profession, place of birth, birthday, place of living, body type, face type, eye colour, hair colour, and particular characteristics. The collection also contains Iwar Cohn’s application for Swedish citizenship in November 1946. The citizenship application includes information on, for example, Iwar Cohn’s name, birth, place of birth, family, religion, parents, time periods living in Sweden, previous and current employment in Sweden, and previous and current salaries.
