This collection is part of the Jewish community of Stockholm’s main records (SE/RA730128/01), which comprises collections related to the community’s legal, organisational, religious, cultural and political matters. This specific collection holds agendas from council or general annual meetings between 1939 and 1977, as well as material used for the decisions made at these meetings. Notes from council meetings in 1951 and 1952 are missing. The collections consists of 11 volumes, which contain agendas and materials for the community meetings from 1939 and 1940, 1941 and 1944, 1945 and 1948, 1949 and 1954, 1955 to 1958, 1959 to 1962, 1963 to 1964, 1965 to 1966, 1967 to 1968, 1969 to 1972, and 1973 to 1977 respectively. All volumes hold two leather-bound books each, apart from volume one (which holds one) and volume 10 (which holds four).
The council and general annual meetings discussed and decided on a range of issues connected to the Jewish community of Stockholm, for examples the employment of teachers, choir singers and rabbis, the construction of buildings, the delegation of work to individuals outside the Jewish community, and the provision of scholarships and alms to community members and smaller Jewish religious and/or cultural groups in Stockholm, as well as cultural and religious matters. The agendas in the volumes hold the following information: the nature of the meeting, the date (day and month) of the meeting, the time of the meeting (only in some cases), the paragraph numbers, as well as a short description of what each issue concerns. The agendas are typewritten on white paper with black ink, but a few scribbles with either a black ink pen or a pencil can be found throughout the volumes. The typewritten text is sometimes underlined for emphasis. The volumes also include the materials that were used as basis for the decisions made at the council or general annual meetings. These include copies of letters, investigations or budgets received by the community leaders and the delegates of the council, and they are copied on a typewriter, written with black ink on white paper. The agendas for each council or general annual meeting, as well as the material used at these council or general annual meetings, are listed chronologically in each book, and each new year is marked with a blue hard paper with the year printed by hand on it.
- Archival history:
- The material in this collection was created by the Jewish community of Stockholm and transferred to the Swedish National Archives in 1979.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- This collection was created by the Jewish community council in Stockholm, which was led by communally elected board members. These board members were often individuals of high socio-economic rank, both within the Jewish community itself and the larger Swedish society. Notes from council meetings in Stockholm from 1939 until 1977 exist in this collection. The council’s notes are based on discussions and decisions taken during council meetings and they were written by the appointed secretary. The notes are collected in chronological order and stored in books with hard covers. Between one and four books are held in each of the 11 volumes.
